Civilization represents the social dimensions of psychic events and the individual mind represents the psychic dimensions of social events.
George Frankl: The Social History of the Unconscious

The aim of the three day workshop is to use Social Dreaming as a tool of cultural enquiry, which offers participants the opportunity to explore and map together the global forces that are shaping our new cultural horizons so as to bring together information, ideas, knowledge, and experiences to understand about living in contemporary times.

Social Dreaming explores the unconscious dimensions of our social world. It focuses on the thinking and cultural knowledge of dreaming, not on analytic interpretation of dreams. The workshop contains three processes: the Social Dreaming Matrix (SDM), the Dream Reflection Group (DRG) and Dialogues (D). The Social Dreaming Matrix provides the participants a reflective space for the unconscious voice of dreamers to be heard and considered. In the Dream Reflection Group, participants can identify the paradoxes, puzzles, challenges and themes made available in the Matrices to discern the patterns that connect them. In Dialogues, the primary task to be available is for thinking.

Workshop facilitators include Dr. Gordon Lawrence, developer of Social Dreaming; Bipin Patel, co-director of Social Dreaming Ltd; and dramaturge Steve Valk. The workshop is part of U. N. I. (You and I). Social Dreaming Matrices continue throughout the festival.
